South Africa, or more precisely Johannesburg, is said to be one of the first destinations for Lufthansa’s A380.

The introduction of the A380 to the airline’s network could be the fan flight on which the German soccer team is flying to Johannesburg, airline spokesperson Karin Duncker confirmed.

Lufthansa, official partner of the German Football Association, will set up a special flight for the German team to the World Cup in South Africa. Around 150 fans will have the chance to fly with the team to Johannesburg and enjoy a round of exclusive highlights. They will be at the scene when the team is given a send-off at the gate, will be able to chat at a talk session with the players and officials and attend a press conference with the German Football Association (DFB) and two of the players shortly before take-off at Frankfurt Airport. Fans on the flight will also be presented with an exclusive Lufthansa World Cup fan package full of items supporters need to cheer the team on.

The delivery of the A380 to Lufthansa is expected to be in May and for three weeks the aircraft will be used on the Frankfurt/Hamburg/Munich triangle.

The second A380 will be used on the Frankfurt/New York route.
